I am sick of Windows 7 [rant]

I just want to play Killing Floor…Is that too much to ask?

I am seriously considering getting a Macintosh (A real one, not a Hackintosh) and just be done with it.

As I see it, Windows is not optimising anything with my machine (i3-2100 with 4GB RAM).

I think this build which I built last August was a waste of my time and money!

I am just really pissed off :’(

Blog - X/Post from Gamers and Geeks.net - Notice About The Server - 9th January 2012

(It’s not called the VPS on it since it is now the main server for G&G)

Anyway, since the end of December we have officially moved the site to the VPS and we will be dropping GoDaddy support because of the whole SOPA shit that has been going on.

Now, when the server was purchased it was going to be running Minecraft, CS1.6, CSS, TF2 and the site!

Here is what has happened

CSS, CS1.6, Minecraft - Server was lagging that much that the whole VPS restarted!.

CSS, CS1.6 - Working great!

CSS, CS1.6, TF2 - Too much CPU being used. We found out then that we were only getting one core on the VPS, so we closed and deleted TF2

CSS, CS1.6 and Nuclear Dawn - Server was running grand but then no one that I know has the game even though it was in the Indie Royale Bundle, but since there was no interest in the server, I closed ND..

So today we come down to just have a Counter-Strike: Source and a Counter-Strike 1.6 server, the website and the TeamSpeak 3 server on the VPS.

While the TeamSpeak 3 server is getting about 95% of the traffic on this server, there has been no activity on the forums! There has been little-to-none activity on the 1.6 server and I have been the only person (as of recent) playing in the CS:S Server was bots.

What does this mean? Well, looking at this. We could either A) Downsizing the VPS and/or B) Cutting the servers and going back to pure webhosting.

I am not going to be sinking €13-€14 every month for this VPS if no one is going to be using it.

I am not committed to put a lot into this server if I get nothing out of it, just saying!

Now, to more important news.

I have been thinking over the past while that Gamers and Geeks could have a better name. I am all out of ideas! I cannot think for the life of me what to rename this site to.

I would like to focus on the gaming side of things rather than the geek (Technology).

If you have any ideas on what the site could be renamed to (In a general-gaming theme), I would like to hear it in the comments below. And if possible, check to see if the .com and/or the .net is available. I would prefer to have them instead of paying lots of money for tld’s.

If there is no suggestions, then I will leave it as it is until someone can come up with a name.

I don’t know what to say now. I am putting down suggestions, I ask for feedback. I get told that I am changing the site too much when I don’t even get feedback from anyone related to the suggestion. I feel like I am wasting my time asking people what you would like changed with the site!

I would really like to make this site into something, but if I can’t get the support from people, then what is the point me continuing this site!

This is the only thing that I can do since I don’t have a job or even the qualifications to have a job because I can’t get into college. I was doing this back in 2007 for fun when I was in 5th year in Secondary School and my vision, my dream was to make this into a small self-employed web business. But I guess I was dreaming for too much for who I am.

I honestly think that I should stop and just pack all this in. What do you think?

Blog - Star Wars, EXIT TRANCE and VampiricPadraig Video - 8th January 2012

So I didn’t put a blog post last night. Boo hoo.

I was tired and I was playing Star Wars most of the day. I really wanted to train in CSS but my team mates weren’t around to do training. Kinda sucks.

Hopefully today I will be able to train and hopefully be able to record some footage for my VampiricGames YouTube channel which now officially has over 100 videos :D (I am so happy about that)

Anyway, got up this morning at about 12pm (ok, afternoon then lol) and all I have been doing is downloading EXIT TRANCE music from YouTube. I love J-Trance *drools*. I was also doing up the video descriptions and titles for my latest 2 videos for the Games channel.

I feel like I need to put a video on the main channel. I would really like to do one but I have no idea what to do it on yet. Can anyone give me any ideas?

Anyway, that is going to be it. I might do a blog post later and maybe by that time there will be some ideas for the main channel!

Blog - Come here Facebook! - 7th January 2012

Happy Saturday everyone.

Got up this morning and for some MAD random ass reason, I decided to play MW3 for the first time in about a month…After 2 matches, I turned it off.

So, I put Battlefield 3 in and grabbed the Back to Karkand map pack that has been waiting on me for about a month. I played it for a bit and for the most part, I enjoyed it. I would play it again only if I had friends to play it with.

Anyway, I was reading a news article this morning where a Egyptian couple named their first child ‘Facebook’ because ‘Twitter’ would have been to feminine. Like, WHAT THE HELL?!?! Could you have not thought of a decent Egyptian name for you first child or even some common name from another name like “Padraig”. Why people do this is beyond me.

Later (or soon should I say), I should be doing some Counter-Strike: Source training for CEVO.
Oh and on a related note, I uploaded the 4th part of my Counter-Strike: Source session from the 3rd January 2012 onto my VampiricGames channel. I would like it if you could like and fav the video. Thanks.

Blog - Are we ready kids?! - 6th January 2012

Hey everyone, it has been a while since I have done a proper blog post on this. Most of the stuff has been reblog’s and random cross-posts from Facebook.

So here is a proper blog post!

Christmas in the household was very, how should we put it….Quiet.

Dec 24th was a “last minute gift shopping” day so that was kinda hectic although we were not buying for a lot of people since we didn’t have the funds to do buy presents but of course, we did send cards (which in my opinion is most important than anything else)

Dec 25th was mainly a day in the kitchen getting the dinner ready but we didn’t have it till about 6pm which is not the most “traditional” or “proper” time for eating the Christmas dinner to be perfectly honest. That night was me mainly playing Counter-Strike: Source with a bunch of friends and then having a good laugh until I went to bed at about 4am. Lovely, I know.

Dec 26th was the lie-in day. I didn’t really see most of the day and I was mainly doing maintenance work with the GamersAndGeeks.net website and then getting game servers running again (No sleep for me when it comes to G&G guys). So that took up most of the day.

Dec 27th-31st was kinda boring with me doing G&G work and gaming for those few days.

Jan 1st was obviously New Year’s Day and it was a quiet day with nothing to do. So, I was in TeamSpeak for the night (as usual) and we were just having a good time and having a couple of fun games of CSS and more.

Jan 4th was a big flop of a day for me. I…literlly cried that night because, i was having doubts about the future of the one and only thing that I do at the minute and that was Gamers and Geeks.

Now, I know about 99% of the people that read this, don’t even care about G&G, but I was having thoughts that a site with so much low activity could do so badly.

I remember having a community back in 2008 with lots of people flocking to the forum every day. Now, there hasn’t been a single post on the site (besides me) in the past 4-5, maybe even 6 months.

And it’s…well…killing me. Knowing that I am “throwing” money away on something that not one person is even looking at. The only people that look at it is bots and you all know well, that bots mean absolutely nothing when it comes to a website, let alone a forum .

I was encouraged by my friends that I should stick at it for another while and see how it goes, but what I want to ask you all that read this is: Should I either a) shut down the site or b) rebrand the site to a new name but keep the site that I currently have going? Now, I was having some doubts in the middle of last year that I was going to change the name of the site, but I refrained from doing that to see what happens.

If by any chance that you would like to answer the question, or even give me some advice on what I should do, please email me padraig.fahy@gmail.com. I would like to hear your feedback.

But anyway, everything else has been good around here. I have had a bad sleeping pattern over the past few nights but I am trying to fix that. Going to be at 4 in the morning is not good for me. I need to go to bed earlier.

Blog - New Year’s Resolutions 2012 - 6th January 2012

So it is the new year and that would mean for some that it is a new beginning with new year’s resolutions and maybe changes to their lifestyle.

I am not one of those people. I don’t make lists or even at that new year’s resolutions, because you all know far too well, that they don’t keep and then you do the completely opposite.

Now, I know some of you are saying “Padraig, I have kept up with all my resolutions so far, you are talking BS*” Yes, you might have kept it up for 6 days so far (at the time writing this blog), but you know that when it comes to February, you are not going to be keeping up with them.

Now, I don’t want this to be a negative blog, but this is what I will say.

DON’T MAKE RESOLUTIONS. I’m serious, don’t do it. It is a waste of time to do something with a click of a finger. For example, if you are planning this year to lose weight. Don’t do it from Jan 1st. If you are planning to stop smoking, don’t just quit. Reduce the amount of cigs that you smoke in a week to a number and then keep reducing it every couple of weeks until you can get to a point where you are smoking only 1 cigarette a week.

Wow, what a ramble (Note, I am NOT a healthcare professional, so take my advice with a pinch of salt and see your doctor if you are planning to do any of these things)
