Some elements might be different from the final version of FF4. And also, I am running the Windows Vista/7 version of the application.

When I installed FF4, I seen this orange “Firefox” button on the top left of the screen, a address bar and a search bar. Simple. +1

Speed is quite good, although having multiple tabs open at once can be heavy. Mozilla has yet to fix the memory dump that it does :/ +1

Add-ons: The new Add-ons manger and the new way that Add-ons install are not great. You don’t know if you are installing a Add-on until you look at the address bar and see the “jigsaw” icon and then you have to approve it. The information bar that was in Firefox 3 is better and the separate window for Add-ons is easier to work with than 4. -1

Panorama/Group Tabs etc: This was a feature that I was confused about at first and then I seen the video. Nice grouping of tabs but without opening different instances of Firefox. I would like to see in the next version for the tabs that are grouped to STAY where they are instead of closing when you click the “X”. Great idea, needs more features +1

The “Firefox” button: I am still a bit “meh” about the button because its what the File-Edit-View menu is but it’s not. There is some features that I would like to see added (or even allow us to add and remove items from the menu). Other than that. Simple and effective. +1

(Gahh, I can’t think of anything else to say for this review)

Firefox overall is good, but they have went a bit OTT with the new features and should stick FF3 style. I will be using this for a while.

Would you want to use this browser?? – Yes! Simple if you want a get-up-and-go browser with customization.

:)

I need to improve these reviews, I am going to be reviewing Flock 3 Beta in the next week so you can check that out. Laters :D

Padraig <![CDATA[[Music Lyric Tuesday] B.O.B feat. Hayley Williams – Airplanes]]> http://padraigfahy.com/blog/?p=258 2010-08-17T15:21:51Z 2010-08-17T15:21:51Z Hey guys.

This week I am featuring a song which has been out for a while. Hayley Williams from Paramore has teamed up with B.O.B and released Airplanes. I have never took much intrest in the song until I heard it on the radio last week. It’s a brilliant song and you all need to listen to it if you haven’t yet!

YouTube video follows!

Lyrics:

Hayley Williams
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now

RAPPING
Yeah
I could use a dream or a genie or a wish
To go back to a place much simpler than this
‘Cause after all the partyin’ and smashin’ and crashin’
And all the glitz and the glam and the fashion
And all the pandemonium and all the madness
There comes a time where you fade to the blackness
And when you’re staring at that phone in your lap
And you hoping but them people never call you back
But that’s just how the story unfolds
You get another hand soon after you fold
And when your plans unravel
And they sayin’ “what would you wish for”
If you had one chance
So airplane, airplane
Sorry I’m late
I’m on my way so don’t close that gate
If I don’t make that then I’ll switch my flight
And I’ll be right back at it by the end of the night

Hayley Williams
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now

RAPPING
Yeah, yeah
Somebody take me back to the days
Before this was a job, before I got paid
Before it ever mattered what I had in my bank
Yeah back when I was tryin’ to get a tip at Subway
And back when I was rappin’ for the hell of it
But now a days we rappin’ to stay relevant
I’m guessing that if we can make some wishes outta airplanes
Then maybe yo maybe I’ll go back to the days
Before the politics that we call the rap game
And back when ain’t nobody listened to my mix tape
And back before I tried to cover up my slang
But this is for the Cada, what’s up Bobby Ray
So can I get a wish to end the politics
And get back to the music that started this shit
So here I stand and then again I say
I’m hopin’ we can make some wishes outta airplanes
Hayley Williams
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now

Padraig <![CDATA[[Software Review] Linux Mint 9 Fluxbox RC]]> http://padraigfahy.com/blog/?p=254 2010-08-09T01:08:57Z 2010-08-09T01:08:57Z Hey guys. Today I am, going to give my review on the Release Candidate version of Linux Mint 9 Isadora.

Visuals!

WOW! What can I say about the visuals. They are brilliant. The desktop has a “taskbar” that contains 4 items when you install Mint (which are Network, Volume, Updates and the clock) and that is it for the desktop…..

That is it!

The windows on it is a nice dark colour (gray/black) which has a nice modern feel to the system. The menu (which I will come to in the minute) is designed well.

Programs/Menus etc

This is gonna be a bit of a head scratch. Why?? Because Mint Fluxbox is so minimal in design, they didn’t even put in a menu bar (eg. the bar on the top of Ubuntu or Fedora or any GNOME distro for that matter), instead, Mint decided to shove shove everything into 1 right-click menu.

When you open your men, you have some favorite applications on the top of the list. Below that is just your regular GNOME menus with Accessories, Internet, Graphics etc etc etc, but everything else after that seems to act like if its Ubuntu.

I have been told that Mint is Ubuntu. I respect that but how many distros out there is like Ubuntu. ALOT!

Anyway, back to the review.

Applications

By default you have some applications that you would use on a daily basis, such as Firefox, Xchat and Thunderbird. There is Gimp and Abiword.

Flash on this laptop anyway, is a bit slow but that was to be expected because Flash never ran perfectly on this laptop even on Windows.

The update manger is pretty cool. Different level of importance (just like in Windows) for updates. Level 1 being the most important and Level 3 being program updates or minor updates.

Sound. I haven’t heard that many sounds. I haven’t heard a startup or anything but I do know that it is working because i have listened to music on it and I have watched a couple of flash videos.

Performance

I am running Linux Mint 9 on a 1.4GHz Intel Celeron M with 2GB of DDR RAM and a ATi Radeon 200M integrated GFX card and as expected. It’s kinda slow. When ever I am typing here on WordPress, it lags when I backspace but everything works perfectly none-the-less. It can freeze from time to time but I don’t mind.

One thing I have noticed that is bothering me, is that my laptop tends to overheat whenever I use Linux and becomes hot to the touch.

Overall, A pretty nice system if you are starting out on Linux. I will be using this on my laptop for quite some time and since this is the RC, I would like to see what Mint can pull out of the bag when the final version is released.

I will be reviewing the final version when it comes out!

My Score: 9.5/10

Just a quick note of what happening on this blog from September onwards. I will continuing the blogging (obviously) with Music Lyric Monday starting again on September 6th and Software Reviews and Personal Blogs and I might be doing some tutorials on different small things over the next while (up to xmas anyway). I hope you are all enjoying the summer. And I am going to take a week or so off blogging (because I have been working on the front page for a while) and I will be back with (maybe ) a MLM on 16th August. Cya’ll later :)

Padraig <![CDATA[[Software Review] Puush.me]]> http://padraigfahy.com/blog/?p=251 2010-07-31T00:12:48Z 2010-07-31T00:12:48Z (Note: When I was creating this review, I was struggling what to say…..It’s so simple that I can’t make it as long as I wish)

Hey everyone and welcome to my software review on puush.me, the desktop screenshot program for Windows XP, Vista, 7 , Mac OS X 10.5 +

Have you ever been in a situation where you want to take a screenshot and give it to your friends over IM or IRC?? What would you do?

You would press “Print Screen”, then open “Paint” and paste it. Save it as a .png. Go to imageshack (or any other photo sharing website), upload and grab the link and then share it with your friends.

That is 7 steps that you have to take in order to get a link to give to your friends. How would you like to press a button and let a program do the work for you?

All you need is to press is a 3-key combination. Ctrl+Shift+ 2(or 3,4,U) and it will then take the screenshot (depending on the button you pressed), upload it and puts a link to your clipboard ready to be pasted to a friend on IM or IRC…Or even on a forum (Yes, you can wrap the puu.sh links with [IMG] tags)

I have been using puush ever since the program was announced on osu! back in June. And I have never looked back on it. And you can even create pools (which are albums) to sort your screenshots.

I am absolutely gobsmacked at the awesomeness of this program. Never again will I have to upload a screenshot to a image sharing site. This does all the work for me.

I recommend this to ANYONE that takes screenshots often.

I will give this program a 10/10!

I have heard that there is a iPhone app available, which is pretty more awesome.

:D

Padraig <![CDATA[Me and My Health!]]> http://padraigfahy.com/blog/?p=241 2010-07-18T13:12:03Z 2010-07-18T13:12:03Z NOTE: This blog is mostly directed at my close friends. You know who you are.

As most of you know, I have been a overweight teenager until about 16 where my weight just dropped off me. Since then I have been up and down with sickness and I want to share what I have.

I have a mild form of Bowel Cancer.

I have told only 1 person and I don’t know if I have shared it with anyone else

What happens is my weight goes up and down like a yo-yo, and that sometimes prevents me from doing any socialising

I have become detached from my friends and I blame it on my health. I really wish I could go into town and be with my friends.

I get really disappointed when I do get sick and my weight increases. I go from a 34 to a 38 (nearly 40 sometimes) in a pair of jeans.

Friends. I would like us to get together for a drink or something before some of you’s go back to school or people that are going to college! I haven’t seen any of you’s in a very long time and I miss you all.

:)

My computer is not well atm. I got the computer back from my dad a couple of days ago and now its very slow. So, I reinstalled Windows 7 and it didn’t make a blind bit of difference. So now I have installed Windows XP on it. And now i am gonna get a new Hard Drive.

I am kinda pissed off at it more than anything at the minute.

Padraig <![CDATA[Best Summer Ever]]> http://padraigfahy.com/blog/?p=233 2010-07-11T20:39:40Z 2010-07-11T20:38:47Z I have to admit. This has been the best summer that I have had in a couple of years.
Yes, I have spent most of my time here at home and in front of the computer but I am having these ideas but I need lots of time (And I don’t mean a couple of hours btw, I mean, a couple of months).

My main project was to focus on this site and Gamers and Geeks.
Gamers and Geeks has been a shipment of fail and I am trying my hardest to get members onto our forums. But it seems impossible.

I don’t know what I am doing wrong but I do wanna figure out what make sites like IGN and Gamespot SPARK.

Anyway, I have been improving my HTML and CSS skills (Thanks to Daniel :D ) and I have improved the design of my own site.

I am now attempting to create a page using a templete inside dreamweaver and its going good so far, trialing and testing a few things (especially in the CSS field)

Anyway, I shall do a Music Lyric Monday tomorrow and I am thinking of doing another software review this week, Just gonna have to wait and see.

I might be doing a review on the new Firefox 4 beta or Flock 3 Beta. What do you think I should do. Leave a comment below :)

Oh, and this post and all my future posts are now gonna be available on my tumblr at http://vampiricpadraig.tumblr.com

So, yesterday a penguin was kidnapped from Dublin Zoo by 2 men.
They got into a taxi outside the zoo, at about 8.30am saying to the driver that they have a rabbit.

Gardai later found the penguin waddling around Rutland Street and was brought back to Dublin Zoo safely.

According to RTE. The penguin was said to be “Very Stressed”.

The question is. WHY did these men steal this penguin. Leave your answers below.

Padraig <![CDATA[[Blog] Some Rants and Other Stuff that I would like to discuss and tell the world about]]> http://padraigfahy.com/blog/?p=228 2010-07-07T17:43:28Z 2010-07-07T17:43:28Z Sorry about the long confusing title for this post, but anyway.

I want to start of with Dreamhost, yes, they have amazing prices for their hosting. But when they say that they are not gonna charge your credit/debit card until the first payment (which is after your 2 week trial). I looked on my 3V statement today and BAM, they took 1.26 off me. I was like “WTF??”, So I quickly emailed them and asked them to kindly give me my money back, I have yet to get a reply from them.

And on that note, I want to say that I am staying here with GoDaddy’s free service for a year longer. Yes, the ad maybe a bummer to people (but that can quickly be fixed by using AB+ on Firefox of Chrome). I payed under 7 euro once again to get myself the domain, 10GB space (30GB band) and a free email address. I can’t complain about any of that. And anyway, who looks at this blog huh? So, I don’t mind having the ad there because I am supporting GoDaddy (Now, I want something in return for advertising your site for a year GD)

I have not got my computer back yet from my dad (as he wont pay for the repairs for his own computer (typical)) and I am still on this stupid laptop. I would love to test the new Firefox on 7, but I am stuck with using it on XP which doesn’t have the firefox button. But oh well.

I have relaunched Gamers and Geeks (how many times have I relaunched it) and now we have split the site into 2. One for the news and one for the forum. So , we don’t lose anything from the forum.

I recently soft-modded my playstation 2 (Thanks to my friend Conor) and I have been playing Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System which imo, is a lot different to the European Version of FFXII. For eg. You can now press L1 to go faster in gameplay terms, Treasure Chests only require you to move one screen away in order for them to respawn. And Items are different to the original.

I had a problem once when in the Barhiem Passage, you could buy Blizzard in there for 200Gil. In the International version, you can’t, You get it on The Dreadnought Levithan.

Anyway, good game if you had the original.

It has been a good summer so far, watching a good few anime’s now such as Lucky Star, Air, Yugiohg 5D’s and K-ON! and I am enjoying them all.

I might do a MLM this Monday but I’ll see what happens at the weekend.

Later
